Our Chosen Charity

Charity for 2009
Each year we support a charity, chosen by our members at the AGM. Last year, we were pleased to be able to send £150 to 'Dogs for the Disabled'; the money being raised at our annual Companion Dog Show.
As well as our chosen charity, last year we were also able to support 'The Fire Fighters Benevolent Fund' with a donation raised from raffles.
It is usual for our members to select a dog related charity for our club to support, and this year has been no exception.
The charity selected this year is the 'Oldies Club', a National Charity who support, rehome and find foster homes for older dogs that have been rescued or who are in need of help.
For many years our Companion Dogs Shows have been a roaring success and we have been able to support a wide range of charities.
Of course, we couldn't do any of this without you. So please remember our Summer Companion Dog Show, and join us for a fun day out and help us to support the 'Oldies Club'.
The Oldies Club
In the short time the charity has been in operation, they have helped care for and rehome many older dogs.
The dogs are referred from many sources. The charity works closely with other rescue organizations and takes in dogs where the owner had died, or has become unwell and is not able to care for the animal. In some cases the home circumstances may have changed and the owner is no longer in a position to care for a much loved companion. But no matter what the cause, the Oldies Club works to rehome the dog.
Often it is necessary to find short term foster homes for older dogs and the charity is working to build up a list of such accommodation.
As you can imagine, this is a costly exercise, and the Oldies Club is constantly seeking to raise money to fund its operation.
You can find out more about the incredible work of the Oldies Club by visiting their website, where you can also obtain details of how to foster an older dog or how to go about offering a permanent home to a very deserving companion.

2009 Companion Dog Show

Yet again, our August Bank Holiday Show was a great success - and this year we were also blessed with very good weather. With a total of seventyfive entries, our judges were kept busy, and it's fair to say that an enjoyable day was had by all, as you can see in the pictures above.
